Weathered bottom ash from municipal solid waste incineration: Alkaline activation for sustainable binders

نویسندگان

چکیده

Alkali-activated binders (AABs) stand out as promising candidates to replace ordinary Portland cement (OPC) since waste can be used raw material for their manufacture. This study addresses the environmental feasibility of using weathered bottom ash (WBA) and metakaolin (MK) alkali-activated binder precursors (AA-WBA/MK). Different proportions WBA MK were mixed (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, 0/100 wt%) with a mixture waterglass (WG) NaOH 8 M an alkaline activator solution. The effect increasing content was assessed from chemical, physical, mechanical, perspective. results revealed formation secondary reaction products C-(A)-S-H, (C,N)-A-S-H, N-A-S-H gels. compressive strength AA-WBA/MK decreased (from 61.6 MPa 12.6 MPa) increased. monolithic tank test validated use construction purposes, although some restrictions due in As, Sb, V. Finally, encapsulation efficiency mechanical performance enhanced curing period

Distribution of Chloride in Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Bottom Ash

Chloride content is a critical problem for the reuse of incineration bottom ash as raw material in cement. The effect of dechlorination procedure largely depends on the existence form of the chlorides. However, limited information about the distribution and identity of chlorides in bottom ash can be obtained by bulk analysis methods. In this paper, the investigation towards a more comprehensive...

Phosphorus recovery from municipal solid waste incineration fly ash.

The potential of phosphorus (P) recycling from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) residue is investigated. Vast and ever increasing amounts of incineration residues are produced worldwide; these are an environmental burden, but also a resource, as they are a major sink for the material flows of society. Due to strict environmental regulations, in combination with decreasing landfilling s...

Municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash : Physicochemical characterization of organic matter

The aim of this work was to characterize the initial organic content of a selected municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash. This was realized by elemental carbon analysis using pyroanalysis of untreated samples. In addition, MSWI bottom ash extracts obtained by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) or hot solvent extraction (Soxtec), were analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) coupl...

Full Scale Tests of Short-Term Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Bottom Ash Weathering Before Landfill Disposal

Problem statement: Natural weathering is the most economic method of treatment in order to reduce the release of heavy metals present in the residue. Approach: The aim of the study was to optimize the minimum weathering times that were useful to reduce the lead release to within the Italian limits for landfill disposal. The mechanism of short-term weathering of MSWI bottom ash had been studied ...

Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Bottom Ash: Characterization and Kinetic Studies of Organic Matter

Bottom ash is the main solid residue (in weight) which is produced by municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) facilities. To be reused in public works, it has to be stored previously a few months. This material is composed primarily of a mineral matrix but also contains unburnt organic matter. The mineral content and its change in the course of aging are relatively well-known, in contrast wit...
